Breaking the Concrete Ceiling
Breaking the Concrete Ceiling Webinar Recap
Breaking the Concrete Ceiling — and the conversation continues.
Last night, NAWIC brought together women from across the construction sector for our Breaking the Concrete Ceiling webinar, a powerful discussion about resilience, leadership, and the realities of building a career in our sector.
Facilitated by Jehan Casinader, the conversation featured inspiring insights from Chantelle Ngaia, Bex Chapman, and Colleen Upton - three women who are challenging expectations and leading change across the sector.
The chat was buzzing throughout the evening as attendees shared their reactions:
💬 “Such awesome, powerful stories!”
💬 “Very powerful messages from everyone.”
💬 “Great tips and inspiring stories — fantastic facilitating work Jehan.”
💬 “You are all stars — I can’t stop smiling listening to you all.”
💬 “Plenty of inspiring stories and practical advice — thank you for your honesty.”
Beyond the inspiration, the discussion also tackled real barriers - from outdated attitudes on worksites, to recruitment practices, to the need for better pathways for young women entering the sector.
As one participant noted:
“The construction sector needs to scream from all its marketing - we are recruiting women.”
This is exactly why these conversations matter.
A huge thank you to our speakers, facilitator, and everyone who joined us and contributed to such an honest and energising discussion.
And this is just the beginning.
NAWIC will be hosting more webinars throughout the year, exploring the issues our membership has told us matter most - from representation and workplace culture to career pathways, pay equity, and leadership.
If you missed this one, stay tuned - there is much more to come.
