What is your current title for work?

Quantity Surveyor

Your current organisation for work:

Hawkins

How many years have you been in the construction industry:

4 years

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

When I graduated high school, I was unsure what I wanted to do, I landed a job at Mitre 10 in the hardware department, which sparked my interest in construction. I transferred to the Trade department to help me with my studies as I began my journey to become a quantity surveyor. I was offered a job as a hammer hand when I was employed in the trade department, which made me feel I was on the right path.

What are you most passionate about?

The ability to contribute to the creation of something with a big influence is provided by the construction industry. It alters landscapes and completely changes communities. A building where families live, businesses operate, or retail establishments flourish is created from a pile of bricks, wires, logs, and beams.

Why did you join NAWIC?

To be able to connect with, network with, and learn from people in the industry.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

I would like to see an increasing number of women in the industry breaking barriers to gender bias and career advancement.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

- Do not compare your journey to others because they are all unique.

- Make sure to connect with like-minded people who inspire you.
- Confidence is key!

- Make sure you set realistic goals and smash them.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

I love being outside in nature and appreciating the scenery. So when the weather is nice, I'll go hiking, camping, stand-up paddle boarding, and fishing! I also like to go to the gym and play video games.
