NAWIC MANAWATŪ COMMITTEE - ADVOCACY

What is your current title for work?

Architect / Practice Director

Your current organisation for work:

242am Architects Ltd.

How many years have you been in the construction industry:

20 years

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

I always wanted to be an Architect. And hence went through intense training as an undergraduate in India, completed my masters in Sydney and then went on to get myself registered in New Zealand. It was my innate desire to create beautiful cities for our communities that has kept me driven throughout my career in

construction.

What are you most passionate about?

Impacting people’s lives positively, through good design, is what gets me to work in the mornings.

Why did you join NAWIC?

To be a voice for Women in Construction. Hence our chapter has created a new role for Advocacy.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

To see women as an integral part of the construction industry and their contributions recognised.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

I tell myself everyday ‘I am a SuperWoman’ and then i am ready, mentally, to be one 🙂

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

I am blessed with a beautiful family - One daughter and an awesome loving husband - we love going on holidays - we love exploring countries & cities. And on Friday evenings we look forward to turning on the music and simply ‘Dance’.
