LETITIA McRODDEN

What is your current work title?

SQTE Divisional Manager

When did you start working in construction?

I guess it would be 20 plus years with roles relating to the construction industry.

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

I worked in manufacturing out of high school then a varied career including admin, project management, injury management and transport planning.

In transport I worked closely with construction contractors that impacted regular road use. My interest was sparked by the interesting projects and places they worked and the down to earth, hard working people I connected with.

What are you most passionate about?

The safety and wellbeing of our people and how to deliver that for different groups within the industry.

Why did you join NAWIC?

In 2025 I was nominated for the NAWIC Excellence Awards and was a finalist at the awards. I looked more into the work NAWIC does and how that aligns with my desire to support the women on our industry to be able to carry out good quality work safely.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

I would love to see the day that the conversation doesn't have to be about women in construction because we have become an accepted, normal and integral part of the industry. A part where we don't have to advocate for the little things like hygiene facilities and PPE that fits well.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
It can be a slow grind and sometimes feel like we're still in the dark ages but the work is super rewarding and most of the individuals you come across are amazing and supportive. If you need to, find your allies and help us drive change for those coming in next.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

I love almost any activity that involves socialising with friends and family but also enjoy a good book or a quiet hour or two of knitting.
