What is your current title for work?

Real Estate Sales Professional, Sothebys Britomart Auckland

How many years have you been in the construction industry:

20+

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

My passion for the building industry came about when I was introduced to residential design and build, my creative flair and interest in people shone through and I have never looked back. My first day on the job I was literally thrown into a client meeting and they signed up within days to build their dream home. A while later I made the most of an opportunity to sell real estate and took pride in presenting many homes for sale.

What are you most passionate about?

I enjoy watching buildings/architecture being erected from the ground up and following the progression of the build, like Meccano in a sense. Fixtures and fittings which are a wow factor always inspire me.

Why did you join NAWIC?

A friend who was in recruitment asked me if I would be interested in becoming a NAWIC member (at that stage I had never heard of the organisation) and the rest was history. I joined the Auckland Committee a year or so later and thoroughly enjoy belonging to a vibrant active group of motivated ladies.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

Preferably a lot more women joining the trades, becoming apprentices and showing others that it can be done. Dream big, achieve more.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

Baby steps ... have respect for those around you and you will earn respect over time. Don't go in guns blazing.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

Dancing Salsa, Bachata, Forro & Ceroc. They are all so good for my soul.
