What is your current title for work?
Health & Safety Manager
When did you start in the construction industry:
2021
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
Honestly, I didn’t grow up thinking construction was where I’d end up! An opportunity came up for an administrator role on a building site, and since I’d been doing admin with the local council on building consents, I thought why not give it a go? I jumped in and haven’t looked back since!
What are you most passionate about?
I’m really passionate about mental wellbeing and helping people. Having been through some tough times myself, I know how important it is to have someone you can actually talk to. I try to
be that safe, approachable person on site — someone who genuinely cares and makes sure no one feels like they’re going through things alone.
Why did you join NAWIC?
I joined NAWIC because I thought it would be an awesome way to connect with other women in the industry — to have that support, share ideas, and of course enjoy the odd sneaky drink or
two along the way 😉
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
I’d love to see more women in construction feeling confident to step into all roles — from the tools to leadership positions. The more visible we are, the more we break down old stereotypes
and show that this industry has room for everyone. Ultimately, I’d like to see women supported, celebrated, and given the same opportunities to grow and thrive as anyone else.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:
Be strong and direct and don’t take sh*t from anyone! You have a voice, so don’t be afraid to use it! But also be prepared to come across idiots along the way, just make sure you set your boundaries from the beginning and don’t let anyone overstep them.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
I play indoor netball twice a week, but my favourite thing to do is just let my hair down and dance, sing and have lots of laughs!
