What is your current title for work?

Pre-positioning & Bid Development Lead (& Business Opportunities Lead)

When did you start working in construction?

I started fresh out of high school in construction, in the three decades since, there has been a lot of hands-on learning. My pathway has been refreshingly varied (and included two beautiful children now aged 20 and 15), starting from the ground up with site-level experience across both vertical and horizontal construction, with stints in marketing and international finance added a layer of commercial and risk awareness that I bring into everything I do. Most recently, spanning tender and technical writing, and forward work pipeline creation and planning.

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

What has kept me in the industry is the challenge, the variety, the pace, and the opportunity to work alongside leaders who are genuinely invested in doing things better. Construction keeps delivering that. It still does.

What are you most passionate about?

People. Always. Working alongside people, teams and leaders who genuinely put people at the heart of every decision is not a nice-to-have, it is everything.

Why did you join NAWIC?

I joined NAWIC to play an active role in creating more opportunity for others. It brings together women who understand the industry from the inside, its energy, its culture, and its gaps. For me, that is both a personal and professional commitment.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

Construction is heading in the right direction, and that momentum is worth acknowledging. There is still room to grow, particularly in the civil sector, where progress has been slower. I would like to be part of shaping what comes next.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

Get your boots on the ground before you commit to a direction. Early exposure is invaluable, construction rewards curiosity and adaptability. The breadth of opportunity is enormous once you are in. Back yourself and never underestimate the perspective you bring.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

Surf lifesaving has been a constant thread through my family — a passion that spans generations. Away from the water, you will find me tramping, working with pottery or fabric, but most of all, alongside my family.
