What are you most passionate about?
Throughout my career, nothing has shaped my perspective quite like raising two daughters. My passion for my family is front and centre, driving me to not only strive for personal growth, but to create pathways for others, especially young women within our industry. Being a mum instilled a mindset of resilience, empathy, and the unwavering belief that everyone deserves equal opportunity.
And now, as a grandmother, I find myself even more passionate about future generations. This new chapter has deepened my commitment to ensuring the pathways we create today truly empower those who come after us, making our industry and our workplaces places where everyone can thrive. I’m passionate about building workplaces where diverse thinking is welcomed, futures are shaped, and the legacy we leave positively impacts generations to come.
Why did you join NAWIC?
After 20 years in the construction industry, I wanted to find ways to give back and genuinely make a difference for those in the industry. Early in my career, I was a bit hesitant about the concept of a women’s group and wondered how it could really move the dial.
But it’s clear NAWIC offers real practical support: encouragement, learning, and a thriving network where members back one another and celebrate each other’s progress.
A turning point for me came when my boss nominated me for the NAWIC Excellence in Construction Award and I was lucky enough to win. That recognition reminded me of how powerful it is when someone believes in you, and it ignited my passion to pay it forward. I’ve worked hard to reach my current position, and now I’m committed to using my experience and connections to make sure other women have equitable opportunities and are properly recognised for their efforts.
As Hawke’s Bay Branch Chair, my vision is to amplify NAWIC’s influence locally, providing more resources, great events, and, crucially, bringing the amazing men in our industry into the movement as true allies. It takes all of us to build an industry that is inclusive, supportive, and future-focused. NAWIC isn’t just about transforming careers, it’s about lifting the entire industry, making sure every woman, and every ally, feels included and empowered to create real, lasting change.
A true test for me – and it should be for any leader in this business is to ask yourself: would you be happy and proud to encourage your daughter or granddaughter to work in this industry? If the answer is anything but a confident “yes”, then that’s a sign we’ve got more work to do. That’s why I’m so invested in driving improvement and making our industry truly welcoming for everyone.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
My hope is that every young woman whether she’s just starting out or aiming for leadership feels confident to own her space in construction. I want to see the barriers fall, pathways open up, and genuine representation at every level, from apprenticeships all the way to senior management.
If we nurture supportive environments, recognise achievement, and keep pushing for real change, I believe the industry can become a place where every woman has the chance to truly thrive.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of, or considering a career in construction:

Know your worth, back yourself, and stay open to learning at every turn.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions or claim opportunities when they come up.
Surround yourself with people who inspire and challenge you, invest in your own growth, and never underestimate the value of your unique view.
Your presence and perspective are powerful, use them to shape not just your career, but the entire industry for others who follow.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
