What is your current title for work?

Build Support Manager for Classic Builders Waikato

How many years have you been in the construction industry:

5 years

What are you most passionate about?

Continuous Improvement & the Client Experience! – I’m passionate about evolving and growing our teams, products, services & processes to their maximum potential. I love learning, problem solving and challenging the status quo around ‘we have always done it that way’.

Why did you join NAWIC?

Because I want to support women like me and create a clearer and more accessible path for the women coming after me. I want to contribute to providing a platform where women feel comfortable taking up space and using their voice.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

I would like to see the construction industry become diverse and an accurate snapshot of what our communitiy in New Zealand looks like – in gender, ethnicity & education background. The construction industry is so broad and there are so many avenues available to follow – not just being on the tools!

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

Find a mentor & put your hand up for any and all opportunities you want to be a part of!! I found my career in the construction industry really took off once I had someone more Senior who not only advocated for me to have a voice and created space for my thoughts & opinions - but also challenged and encouraged my personal development outside of work.

I also noticed my position and influence within the business really evolved and became what I wanted it to be once I stopped waiting to be given opportunities, and instead went looking for them & volunteering to be involved.
