When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do?

The Infrastructure Industry is progressive, dynamic and fundamental to the growth of New Zealand. When an opportunity came up to move into the industry my curiosity motivated my application to join Hynds. Since then I have had the opportunity to move the organisation into the digital marketing space, improve the branding image of infrastructure products and drive celebration of Industry projects. The civil and rural infrastructure industry is constantly developing, particularly in innovative new technology and sustainable goals for people, planet and product.

What are you most passionate about ?

Profiling major projects, and making concrete look sexy!

Why did you join NAWIC?

NAWIC celebrates women in an industry that is predominantly male. Women only organisations provide a safe environment to encourage and cheerlead professional development.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

More women in senior positions. Better onsite facilities and consideration for the needs of women.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

I came to the construction industry later in life but I do think the industry can do a better job of promoting the range of jobs in the industry and also what various career progressive pathways could look like. Not only in university qualification roles but in trades training pathways.
