JESS ANDERSON

NAWIC WAIRARAPA TREASURER

What is your current title for work?

Project Manager

Your current organisation for work:

A1 Homes Wairarapa

How many years have you been in the construction industry:

Two and a half years

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

I had previously built my first home and found the whole process really exciting, when offered an opportunity to work within the construction industry I was ready for a change, it seemed like a pretty good career change – and it has been!

What are you most passionate about?

I am passionate about working in an industry where I get the opportunity to meet so many different people along the way and the relationships built. No day is quite the same, being office and site based I am able to go to sites throughout the Wairarapa and see clients homes take shape which is certainly a highlight.

Why did you join NAWIC?

To meet, network with and grow the number of women in the construction industry and show my own presence as a role model within the Wairarapa as well as develop myself too.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

Growing presence in the Wairarapa as well continuing to grow nationally with opportunities within the industry encouraged to women.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

If you’re not sure just be honest and say so and that you will find out. If you can find someone knowledgeable in the industry that is prepared to mentor you or be your support then I highly recommend that.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

I love socializing, dining out with friends, the odd gin and tonic or espresso martini here and there and travelling when I can.
