When did you start in the construction industry:
2019
When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:
Growing up around my dad’s construction business, I was always drawn to the industry. In high school, I thought I’d follow the path of architecture, combining creativity with construction. But during university, I quickly realised I was more passionate about the fast-paced, hands-on side of project management. I love design, but I enjoy being on site, problem-solving, and seeing projects come to life even more.
What are you most passionate about?
What I love most about working in construction is the variety — no two days are ever the same. It’s a fast-paced, dynamic industry that gives you the opportunity to be part of incredible
projects across a range of sectors, which keeps things exciting and constantly evolving.
Why did you join NAWIC?
When I first started working full-time in Wellington, I got involved with NAWIC through a colleague, Helen, who was heavily involved in the local committee. She is an incredible advocate for the organisation and really highlighted the value of being part of a community that supports and empowers women in construction. After moving back to Auckland, I knew it was something I wanted to stay connected to — to continue building relationships within the industry and to give back to a network that does so much to support others.
What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?
I’d love to see more women continuing to thrive across all areas of construction — not just being part of the industry, but leading it, shaping it, and driving positive change. We’re already seeing the momentum build, but I’m really excited to see what the next 10 years will bring as more women step into leadership roles and challenge the way things have always been done.
Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in
construction:
Never stop being curious and open to learning — there’s always something to take away from everyone you meet on site or in the office, no matter their role or experience. The more you listen, ask questions, and stay engaged, the more you’ll grow both personally and professionally.
What is your favourite thing to do for fun:
I love getting out for a round of golf or spending time with my dog — anything that gets me
outdoors and lets me switch off for a bit.
