When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do: 

I fell into the industry by accident, and initially felt a bit daunted by it, but it’s the most amazing  industry to be in so I’m glad to be here. 

What are you most passionate about? 

I am passionate about ensuring our construction teams are safe, well looked after and that  everyone in the industry loves working in it as much as I do. Mental Health is such an important  part of our lives and our industry hasn’t excelled at ensuring our people have healthy minds, it’s  something I strive to change every day. 

Why did you join NAWIC? 

It’s such an amazing organization which empowers and supports women in such a historically  male dominated industry, and I wanted to be a part of that. 

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction? 

To continue seeing the growth of not only the number of women in the industry, but also that  we are seeing women in more managerial positions, which is incredible and I’d love to see that  increase even more.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in  construction: 

Even if you don’t have a degree in the field, there are so many areas of opportunity in the  industry, it won’t matter. Once you step into the world of construction, you’ll have so many  doors that you could open or fields you could expand your knowledge in, that you will find your  niche and you’ll love it. You may find that a bit daunting initially but embrace the industry and you will see and feel the rewards it has to offer. 

What is your favourite thing to do for fun: 

I love to make gin, it relaxes me and I get to experiment with flavours and botanicals that allow my creativity full rein. I get excited when the gin starts to drip out of my copper still and the  best part is when I get to try my creation!
