How many years have you been in the construction industry?

15+

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do?

As a child, I always had an interest in spatial experiences, colours and origami. Thanks to the help from my high school and my parents, I was able to enter the NZ Young Designer competition and won an award in the Architecture category. This was the beginning of many mini steps toward my career in architecture.

What are you most passionate about?

As a healthcare specialist, creating a healing environment with biophilic design principles is important to me. Effortless spaces have a significant impact on stressful settings. Co-creation design process with users plays a big role in contributing to a successful architectural outcome.

Why did you join NAWIC?

After attending events with NAWIC Auckland, it's always fun and I go home feeling uplifted. Getting to know other members at a personal level makes me realise how valuable it is to see the construction industry from the perspective of all disciplines. I am a big believer that the construction industry needs to work together - we are all connected.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

On top of networking, we do some deep dives to learn from different trades, share war stories, we support each other with open and honest discussions about how to raise the bar in the industry, and acknowledge the women that play a huge role. It is important to encourage and celebrate our achievements together.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction;

Slow And steady wins the race. Take time to broaden your view, your network, and deepen your learning and specialities.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun?

Snorkelling, snacking, (e)scootering, and stroking a cat.
