Leandé Greeff
Finding her Voice in Construction

Her journey into construction began with a curiosity about how complex projects come together — from early planning through to delivery — and how every role contributes to the bigger picture. With a natural strength for organisation, detail, and problem-solving, she found her place in project and contract management, where structure and efficiency keep projects moving.

Since joining Downer, Leandé has discovered just how dynamic and rewarding the construction sector can be. Each day brings new challenges, new collaborations, and the satisfaction of contributing to infrastructure that supports communities across Aotearoa.

Her career has been marked by rapid growth. Starting as a Contract Administrator, she was promoted to Business Support Manager within months before stepping into a Senior Contract Administrator role following a major organisational restructure. Alongside her career progression, she completed her Level 4 Project Management qualification while working full time - a milestone that reinforced her commitment to continuous learning. Her next goal is to complete her Level 5 Contract Management course.

Like many women in construction, stepping into leadership and coordination roles in a traditionally male-dominated environment came with challenges. Early in her career, Leandé found her knowledge and decisions were questioned more often than those of her peers.

Rather than letting that discourage her, she focused on building credibility through professionalism, consistency, and accuracy. By ensuring contracts, reports, and claims were delivered to the highest standard - and confidently standing behind her work - she earned the trust and respect of colleagues and subcontractors alike.

Leandé credits much of her growth to strong mentors, including Nigel Pollock, East Coast Regional Manager, and Jessica Coring, Business Support Manager, whose encouragement helped her step beyond her comfort zone and take on new leadership opportunities.

Today, she takes pride in creating structure and support within her team - strengthening processes, sharing knowledge, and helping others build confidence in their roles.

Her message to the next generation entering construction is clear: believe in your abilities, seek mentors who support your growth, and never be afraid to speak up. Construction is an industry that rewards resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to learning.

“We’re seeing a real shift in our industry - more women stepping into leadership and technical roles and proving that capability isn’t defined by gender.”

For Leandé, showing up, continuing to learn, and leading with integrity is her way of contributing to that shift - helping shape a construction sector where talent, commitment, and leadership are recognised above all else.

“Resilience, integrity, and mentorship are the legacy I hope to leave for those who follow.”
