What is your current title for work?

Sales & Marketing Manager

When did you start working in construction?

Depending on your definition of construction, I have been involved in a variety of construction roles since 2016. From manufacturers (Marley & Cancast/ProREO) to merchants (Sopersmac, now ARA Hardware) and sub-contractors across services (AquaPro, Airlab) and now structural (Cancast & ProREO). Primarily on the sales & commercial side of things but with a fair proportion of operational management too.

When did you decide working in construction was the thing you wanted to do:

As an architecture buff from an early age, I have always loved buildings, and when I then had a taste of civils, extended that interest to construction in general. Viewing the progress of a structure from concept to delivery and then seeing it in operation is a real privilege.

What are you most passionate about?

Supporting people to have the opportunity and space to spread their wings and share their individual creativity and skills with their peers and community.

Why did you join NAWIC?

I was looking for connection with other women in construction, to mentor those in the earlier stages of their career and to encourage more women into our wonderful industry. Along the way I have made great friends and learned from some inspiring and insightful colleagues in construction.

What would you like to see for the future of women in construction?

I would like to see an industry that is accessible and appealing to all, both for the career pathways it offers to the participants and for the huge range of benefits that having a diverse workplace brings.

Words of wisdom or tips for women at the start of or considering a career in construction:

Find a mentor - join NAWIC or connect with someone in the NAWIC group to get you started. There are always challenges, find the workplace that appreciates and resonates with you and you will find yourself with a hugely rewarding career full of opportunities to learn, grow and contribute.

What is your favourite thing to do for fun:

The outdoors has always been my happy place - I spend most of my weekends packrafting or tramping, or making plans to do so! Enjoying our stunning country, seeing places most people aren't lucky enough to get to, and building strong friendships, teams and skills while getting a bit of exercise and fresh air (and water).
